Helping you navigate anxiety, stress, burnout, trauma, relationship difficulties, grief and life transitions.

ABOUT ZARA

A BACP registered psychotherapist working in Eastbourne and online.

I'm Zara O'Brien — a BACP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor and final-year DPsych candidate at City St George's, University of London. I work with adults navigating anxiety, loss, transition, and the quieter questions of identity and self-worth.

My approach is warm, integrative, and grounded in research. I won't apply a formula — I'll work with you, at your pace, with whatever you bring.

AREAS I SUPPORT

When something has shifted

Whatever has brought you here, therapy, training or consultancy can offer a space to pause, reflect and make sense of what's happening, so you can move forward in a way that feels right for you.

Life transitions

Stress & burnout

Understanding what's driving the exhaustion and finding a more sustainable way forward.

Grief, loss & change

3.png

A place to process loss, adjust to what's different and hold what feels hard right now.

Displacement & migration

Exploring the impact of leaving, arriving and finding a sense of place, for individuals, families and communities.

Global events & social change

Making sense of how war, crisis and social change affect us, and the people we support.

HOW I WORK

I offer both open-ended therapeutic work and focused short-term support (typically 6–12 sessions). We begin with an initial consultation — a chance to ask questions and decide whether this feels like the right fit. I draw on person-centred, psychodynamic, and CBT-informed approaches, adapting to what each person actually needs.

My approach is relational and person-centred — the therapeutic relationship is where change begins. You'll be genuinely heard, and we work collaboratively rather than me delivering a programme at you.

Where frameworks are useful I draw on ACT, CFT, and Motivational Interviewing — in practice, developing self-compassion and psychological flexibility alongside the deeper work of understanding what you're carrying and what you want to do with it.

I'll be honest about what I'm noticing, gently challenge you when it seems useful, and won't hide behind a therapist voice. There's warmth here, and occasionally humour.
